Today Sucked, But it Was Perfect

The day was what it needed to be and it was so, even before it came to be.  - Kimblyn

Eastland Mall

Although I celebrated my one year anniversary at Old Dominion Freight Line last week, I found myself reflecting back to my first job at JCPenney. Eastland Mall was a magical place with an ice rink in the center near the food court. Any Old School Charlotteans remember hanging out at Eastland Mall on the weekends?

I was assigned to work in the Men’s Dept. after school.  My favorite memories were during the quiet times, I’d slide over to the Men’s suit department to play. Even then I was inspired by colors and patterns. I’d find a neck tie that spoke to me and then make a game out mixing and matching unique combinations.  Oh, I wish I had IG back then; my timeline would be filled with Shirt and Tie combinations.  There’s nothing as lovely as seeing a man with a unique shirt/tie combination. (Pausing here for a minute to take in that visual..... Ok. I'm back. Lol)

2/22/22

Let's bring this story back to the present, as last week was a bit of a challenge for me.  I was so looking forward to celebrating my one-year work anniversary.  It was 2/22/22, so there were some high expectations on how magical I was expecting to feel.  Instead, reality showed up really, really early and kept the pressure on until I closed my eyes after midnight.

The Gift Was Always There

Well. It sucked. But thankfully my current practice of giving myself a 24 hour, overnight window to allow a reset  has come in handy on many occasions.  During that window, I fell back to my creative practices of color, patterns and play.  I'd never made the connection before, that perhaps those days playing in the shirt and ties, were my creative outlet in working through the challenges of the day.

To be honest, it wasn’t apparent to me until sharing this reflection that the association of the strategy and creativity that I operate in daily is foundationally rooted in the play that I used in my childhood and adolescence.

I am grateful still for the creative journey that sees all this as endless possibilities of just being me. Happy 1st Anniversary to all of me!

My name is Kimblyn and my craft is around creating space for others to share their authenticity, their journey and their stories.  It is never too late to rewrite the story, but first you have to walk in the transparency of the one you have may need a little editing.

My ONE GOOD SEED for today ~  It's either Love or a Lesson!  Just about answers all of the questions.

Leaving you with Peace and Blessings,

Kimblyn
